Miss you, my old man!!

It will be one year on Thursday, July 31st that Aries has been gone. For those of you that were blessed to have met him can understand the huge void that has been left by his departure. There was something incredibly special about this big, old horse. He taught me so very much, not just about horses, but about how to handle what life throws at you. But Aries' departure has brought joy into my life also. Harold was brought back into my life due to the loss of this horse. He helped me at one of my darkest hours. Now, thanks to Aries, Harold and I are expecting this baby boy, a year to the day (well according to his due date) that Aries was euthanized.

I will forever remember you, my old man. Thank you for the years you gave me. I will forever treasure what you have done for me.

RIP

July 27, 2008--Happy Birthday Greta

Greta turned 8 today. She got to spend her birthday at Harold's house. She actually enjoyed herself and was completely pooped out by the end of the day. She was visited by her favorite Black and Tan Coonhound friend, Sharpie, and Jim. She showed them how hard farm life is, lounging in the garage. She even went out on the prowl with Jack a couple of times to chase woodchucks. For her birthday, she really wanted a baby boy, but unfortunately, she had to settle for a good rawhide.

How many more days?

Our days are numbered being our momma's center of attention. Then she is going to let us have a boy of our very own. But she tells us that we are going to have to be good and understanding dogs. Until then she said we can do what dogs like to do. We can run, and dig and chase birds and all sorts of other animals when we get to go to Harold's even if that means mom's gotta deal with the flies and mosquitos. They don't bother us. We like it out at Harold's. Take the lane past the barn and we can run and run and run, and chase herons.

Look hard enough and you can see those noisy grey birds flying away. Mom doesn't always like those birds since they make so much noise, so we thought we would make her happy and see if we could catch them.

Here is Francine. She is a big, old mean cow. But she is very pretty.
Here is the newest little heifer calf. I can't remember how old she is right now. Maybe two weeks old? Cute and curious
And another calf. The little bull (well, for now). There are so much fun to watch play

A lazy Sunday afternoon

We all went to mom and dad's for dinner Sunday to celebrate Dad's birthday which was on Thursday.

Here is Great Grandma Mc with her youngest great grandson, Brady. Gotta love that head of hair.

Harold enjoying an afternoon off over the 4th of July weekend. Time to kick back and relax

Weird dog

I can admit that I have strange animals. They resemble their owner. Today I made a blunder and put the dogs out in their outside kennel thinking that it was not supposed to rain until afternoon. I was wrong. It poured outside midmorning. I came home at lunch to check on the drowned rats. Apparently Jack was smart enough to use the dog house to get out of the rain. I am not quite sure what Greta was doing. Only the top of her head was muddy. She seemed quite proud of her accomplishment until I wanted to take her picture. Then she was dead set on rubbing the mud off on whatever she could find.

The newest male on the Haney Estate. He was born June 14th. Cute little thing. Personally, I think his name should be Houdini since less than a day after he was born he disappeared. Well, he already thought the grass was greener on the other side so he snuck through the fence and then continued to do that for about the next week.

Dinner time for Goliath and Shithead.

That skinny TB needs some groceries but his dear friend Goliath feels it is his responsibility to exercise him every night, all night. Round and round and round he goes, when he stops no one knows. Poor Shithead. Being almost 30, he thought his days of running were over.

Greta still is loopy and strange out at Harold's. Something happened, not quite sure what but she is afraid to leave the safety of the house and garage when it is time to do chores. Now, get the golf cart or 4 wheeler out to go play in the alfalfa field, and somehow her fear diminishes, until the cattle and horses are back in sight, then she becomes a nervous nelly again.

Happy Birthday Jack!

Happy 5th Birthday Jack! To him it is just another day I guess. One with lots of treats. It could be his birthday every day then.

Greta grudgingly agreed to have her picture taken with the birthday boy.

Greta wonders why it can't be her birthday too. She only has to wait one more month. Then she is going hit the geriatric age of 8.

Jack decides to comfort her. It is no fun feeling left out. And his cardboard box of a bed has since been collected by the recycling truck, so he figures that momma's bed is nice and comfy again.

18th street was flooded Thursday night, but not nearly as bad as some other parts of town. Less than 2 blocks away the Dutch Gap overflowed and cars were almost completely submerged. We lucked out here.

And just a goofy picture of Jack. He has free range of the house... my bed, the couch, expensive dog beds but he chooses to sleep in a cardboard box out in the porch. That has been his spot of preference for a couple of weeks now. Strange, strange dog.

Baby Haney

So here is our first view of Baby Haney, who is due to make his appearance July 31st. I am a little late on getting these posted since they were done 10 weeks ago.

Gotta love all the snow we are getting this year

At least the snow makes all this cold weather fun!

Someone is a bit crabby that playtime was interrupted

Here is Cappy, my beloved horse. He is the Pinto (brown and white) horse messing with his favorite friend.
