Caramel was a lucky little boy that had someone fall in love with him at the intake event the day he arrived from Alabama. We were able to foster this little dude only for a couple of days. The day the adopter’s application was approved, I called them and they were on their way to get him within minutes. From over 2 hours away. Lucky boy!

Kamper.... surrendered back to the rescue
I am a few months behind. Here is Kamper. Kamper was returned to SPR by his adopter as being aggressive toward the other dog in the house. Both were the same age and close to the same size. We did home visits, did an emergency transport for neuters to Racine but the adopters wanted instant results. So the agressively 15 lb dogs came to live with us. Kamper did have some dominant tendencies and was a very vocal dog but not aggressive. He thrived in this house. It did not take long for him to find his forever home. But because our rescue does not adopt over Christmas, Kamper was with us for almost two month.
We got to open our home up over the holidays to Kamper. He even got a present from Santa.

Copper’s journey
Copper’s journey to his final home is complete. He was adopted out by the end of October. No big surprise and this guy was cute as a button. But not with out issues. He was never publically released on Sandi Paws website as he had interest from a post RUFF Academy had listed. His new owner seems prepared for his behavior and more than willing to ask for help when needed. He will make all of us proud, I am sure.
Adoption day goodbyes
Wiley came with for the first time for a one on one adoption. That made it tough. But he gets it. Better than I give him credit for.
Coppere’s new mom. She will do well by him. Be happy sassy boy!

Slade. Wiley's heartbreaker.
Wiley has told me for quite a while that he was going to tell his wife to get him a Husky. That always made me giggle. And the last dog I ever wanted was a Husky. Too head strong, too independent, and way too much hair. But Slade was part of the Irma 9. Hurrican Irma was tracking to hit the west coast of Florida and one of the southern fosters with Sandi Paws was being threatened. The rescue did what they do best and started the process to get dogs moved to safety. 9 adult dogs and 9 puppies were moved to Wisconsin on an emergency transport. Slade was one of the 9 adults. I went with Victoria (founder of SPR) to Stoughton to get these adults moved into our vehicles to get them to foster homes here. Slade proved to be a challenge in his first foster home as he had a dog fight and injured the personal dog. I got a call asking if Slade could come here to our outdoor kennels. I had no choice but to say yes, even if the situation was less than ideal. Slade definitely did not like other males. He made that known to me on several different occasions. But he loved Rayna and enjoyed playing with her. But after less than two weeks, Slade found his forever.
Slade's first day here.
Slade met potential adopters. He is dreaming of his forever home...
Wiley saying his good byes.
Jacob saying his goodbyes...
Both kids before we left to meet his adopters. Be happy boy. You gave me a new look at Huskies. You were awesome....
But don't worry... then next one is in the works. Stay tuned.
Bonnie's journey is complete
I wasn't able to keep up with Bonnie and her progress. Summer got busy. No big surprise. But Bonnie would do well, and then we went backward. She definitely was a humbling experience for me. She taught me plenty. Bonnie was with us for four months. She attended many adoption event without an success. Her shyness was very much hindering her chances. But one person was willing to see the diamond shining in the rough. She used to be the shelter manager at the Fond du Lac Humane Society. I could not have asked for a better person to adopt this dog. She gets Bonnie and Bonnie will thrive with her.
Adoption day good byes. This was a hard one for me.
Bonnie's new person. Their relationship is just starting to bloom
And just a couple of Bonnie learning to love life.

Exhausted
My journey with Bonnie has been exhausting. No denying it. Some days we take 3 steps forward, to only fall 5 steps backwards the next day. I get frustrated. But mostly with myself. I feel like I am missing her cues or signs that she has been pushed to far. One thing that I found out is that Bonnie LOVES to run. It helps her confidence and of course, her energy. If we are having a bad day, a good run with the golf cart can usually help.
After weekend number 2, I thought Bonnie was learning that people are okay. She let Harold's uncle Harold pet her without cowering. But within a couple minutes, that was undone. Bonnie was on a long line and she had wandered out and hit the horse fence. That caused her to bolt into the pasture. And then Shaggy saw her and started to chase her out so she bolted back to me. And hit the fence again. Ugh. That was so much of a failure on my part, She went in the house and hid for a couple of days.
And then we went camping and the dogs were boarded. Of course, that was a huge set back. But now I think we are starting to gain ground. I see some signs of her acting like a puppy. Stealing shoes and socks, chewing on bones and initiating play with Jordy and Rayna. Hopefully, we can continue to move forward. And I must remind myself to have patience and understanding. There is an adoption event on Saturday. I do not think she is ready for adoption but I have to give her the opportunity to meet more people. Fingers crossed that we have a good day.

Bonnie hasn't been eating a whole lot. I have tried to feed her with my dogs, in her crate, in the kitchen, bathroom, etc. I have added water to soften, beef broth, even bacon grease. Not much helps. But today I was sitting in the floor messing with my personal dogs while they ate. They both food guard when I have fosters. Bonnie's food bowl was close to me. She was sitting on a rug in the entryway away from her bowl. Well not sure what or why, but I moved her bowl away from my dogs and she came to eat while I was still holding it. And she kept eating. This is the closest Bonnie has voluntarily been to me yet! Baby steps. I will take it!
