Miss you, my old man!!

It will be one year on Thursday, July 31st that Aries has been gone. For those of you that were blessed to have met him can understand the huge void that has been left by his departure. There was something incredibly special about this big, old horse. He taught me so very much, not just about horses, but about how to handle what life throws at you. But Aries' departure has brought joy into my life also. Harold was brought back into my life due to the loss of this horse. He helped me at one of my darkest hours. Now, thanks to Aries, Harold and I are expecting this baby boy, a year to the day (well according to his due date) that Aries was euthanized.

I will forever remember you, my old man. Thank you for the years you gave me. I will forever treasure what you have done for me.

RIP

July 27, 2008--Happy Birthday Greta

Greta turned 8 today. She got to spend her birthday at Harold's house. She actually enjoyed herself and was completely pooped out by the end of the day. She was visited by her favorite Black and Tan Coonhound friend, Sharpie, and Jim. She showed them how hard farm life is, lounging in the garage. She even went out on the prowl with Jack a couple of times to chase woodchucks. For her birthday, she really wanted a baby boy, but unfortunately, she had to settle for a good rawhide.

How many more days?

Our days are numbered being our momma's center of attention. Then she is going to let us have a boy of our very own. But she tells us that we are going to have to be good and understanding dogs. Until then she said we can do what dogs like to do. We can run, and dig and chase birds and all sorts of other animals when we get to go to Harold's even if that means mom's gotta deal with the flies and mosquitos. They don't bother us. We like it out at Harold's. Take the lane past the barn and we can run and run and run, and chase herons.

Look hard enough and you can see those noisy grey birds flying away. Mom doesn't always like those birds since they make so much noise, so we thought we would make her happy and see if we could catch them.

Here is Francine. She is a big, old mean cow. But she is very pretty.
Here is the newest little heifer calf. I can't remember how old she is right now. Maybe two weeks old? Cute and curious
And another calf. The little bull (well, for now). There are so much fun to watch play

Weird dog

I can admit that I have strange animals. They resemble their owner. Today I made a blunder and put the dogs out in their outside kennel thinking that it was not supposed to rain until afternoon. I was wrong. It poured outside midmorning. I came home at lunch to check on the drowned rats. Apparently Jack was smart enough to use the dog house to get out of the rain. I am not quite sure what Greta was doing. Only the top of her head was muddy. She seemed quite proud of her accomplishment until I wanted to take her picture. Then she was dead set on rubbing the mud off on whatever she could find.
