Waiting for one more...

So the cat is out of the bag. Harold and I are adding to our pasture. We came home with two donkey yesterday from the same rescue that Aries came from. They were both seized from a neglect case up in Bailey's Harbor and were placed at Midwest Horse available for adoption. They are very sweet. Shaggy, the big dark girl that Harold is holding is very shy and nervous since she has never been handled. The little girl that I am holding has been renamed Harmony. Her rescued name was Hermione but that is just too much for me, and I am just not a fan of Harry Potter. She is incredibly friendly and seeks out attention. They arrived home with us yesterday and are in a small paddock attached to the barn. In less than 24 hours they have come a long way. Shaggy actually lets us catch her and attach a lead (something we struggled with yesterday) and have given her a good grooming. Harmony gets jealous when Shaggy gets too much attention and chases her away so that she can get some loving.

Also... we are adding a Percheron mare in a couple of weeks. She is a beautiful, big, black 17.1h draft mare that is coming from my former farrier. She is broke to ride and drive. There is just something about those bigguns. She should be here some time in June. Her name is Fill, or Phil, or Fel, we are not sure. It is short for Felicity and pronounced Phil. No pictures of her yet but once she gets here... well it is a warning that there might be picture overload...
So any of my animal loving relatives... come and venture out to our farm and see our pasture family.

Uh Oh!

Jacob got some nasty owies today. He was walking Daddy, Mommy and some friendsby holding onto the back of his wagon and fell down on the gravel driveway and scraped up his face. Poor buddy! He cried for a short bit and then just wanted to keep doing what he was doing. He loves to push his huge wagon everywhere. Poor guy, though. This is his first owie that drew blood!

Meet Shaggy and "I need a new name". Shaggy is the darker one and the smaller one's current name is Hermione. I am waiting to hear back from a very important 7 year old girl to know if she has any name suggestions for us. Olivia, please call Aunt Katie.

Happy Memorial Day!

It was a cottage weekend for all of us! It turned out to be wonderful (minus the bloodsucking mosquitos)!

Olivia and her cottage dogs.
Grandma loving the fact that her boys are fighting over her.

I thought that bulldogs were supposed to be the drooly ones!

Lovin life on the boat

Lovin Lu

Jacob can't get enough of Lu-dog. Not quite sure the feelings are mutual but Lu was sure a good sport about all of Jacob's affection.

Cousin Luke and Aunt Shannon

Brades

The clan awaiting departure on the tube.

I don't know these people

Waiting for her turn on the tube

Definitely a cottage ritual. We cannot go the weekend with out adorning Greta with some of Olivia's toys.

Seriously, Jacob is in love with Lu!

We left the cottage in the morning so that we could get back to Lamartine in time for the Veteran's Memorial dedication that Harold was a part of for the fire department.

Another beautiful day

Well, can't beat this beautiful Sunday. I wasn't overly ambitious. Can't say the same for Harold. He used his big machines to clean up around here. Jacob and I went to the horse show and then planted a few flowers and played outside. Jacob has officially learned to pull himself up anywhere and has figured out how to walk behind a walker toy. Yikes! That is about all he wants to do now. It is funny when he runs into the wall and he gets mad because he can't figure out why he can't go anymore. And being the perfect mom I am, I laugh at him. Go figure. And then I turn him around.

Jack posing outside

Dinner time for the boys. Nice butts.

We were out wathing daddy move dirt. Jacob loved it

Jacob found a way to mooch two baths in one day. Just schmear your face and hair with the gooey inside from a Nutrigrain bar.

In the last couple of days, Jacob has almost mastered crawling without dragging his belly on the ground. He can also now pull up to a stand but his balance is not that great yet so he topples over. And then cries. But he is learning.

Beautiful day!

Oh, what a day. I am exhausted; my baby is exhausted; my honey is exhausted... I started my day as normal: went to Wally world for formula and so groceries, came home, mowed the lawned trimmed bushed, played with fire, made lunch for my ravenous eater, took Jacob to his grandparents while I got my hair cut, pulled barb wire while Harold strung hot tape for the horse pasture, did chores and made dinner. For most of this time, Jacob was quite the trooper! In addition to helping his mommy and daddy, Jacob had fun chasing his ball around after a complete day outside. I am in amazement as to how well he is just hanging outside with us (eating grass...eeks) while we work. What an awesome boy!

Farewell to T-bone.

Well, it is official. Harold and I no longer have any cattle on the property. Harold's mom sold the entire herd of Texas Longhorns with the exception of T-bone (who was sold to a neighbor for beef). Well, today was D-day for T-bone who met his fate here at the farm. Jacob and I left since there is no way I can witness something like that. It is very weird not having any cows here to take care of. Chores take about 15 minutes for the horses. Chores before took us over an hour to get done. I do miss the cows but on the other hand, it is a strange relief that they are no longer tying us down.

Miss you, T-bone. You were always my favorite. And your name chose your fate. Sorry!

After the neighbors left Harold and I got to work trying to get the cattle pasture horse friendly. We are retaping/hot wiring the fence since horses are dumb about barb wire plus we have to clean up the ground in the pasture. There are a lot of rocks, logs, and stuff out there. Harold figured it would be easier to get the disc out to work up the ground and then try to dry out and clean up.
On a different note, while I was at agility class on Thursday, I called Harold and he told me that Jacob was humping the turtle. It is actually Jack's turtle but Jacob seems to think it belongs to him. And yes, he humps it.
Just a strange sleep postition for a very tired out boy. He loves being outside but it sure does wear him out.

And then Jacob woke up as I was taking his picture. I wish I woke up this happy!
